Becoming a foster parent is a life-changing decision – for both the carer and the child. When considering how to get started, many people are unsure whether to approach their local authority or to foster through an independent fostering agency. Both options can be right, but there are key differences worth knowing.
Fostering2Inspire is an independent fostering agency. We work closely with local authorities but offer our carers a more personalised level of support. Our team is smaller and more accessible, which means you’re never left feeling like just another name on a list. Instead, you’ll be part of a professional yet close-knit team dedicated to helping children thrive.
To become a foster parent with our agency, you don’t need formal qualifications. What matters most is your ability to provide a safe, stable, and nurturing home. You must:
- Be aged 21 or over.
- Have a spare bedroom.
- Be in good health and able to provide emotional and physical care.
- Be ready to work as part of a team and undergo background checks and training.
Once you apply, you’ll go through an assessment process which includes home visits, interviews, and references. This is followed by mandatory pre-approval training to help you prepare for the challenges and rewards of fostering.
After approval, you’ll benefit from:
- 24/7 on-call support.
- Regular supervision and visits from your supervising social worker.
- Ongoing training and professional development.
- Peer support and regular carer forums.
- Competitive fostering allowance and financial support.
- A focus on your wellbeing and that of the child in your care.
We support a wide range of foster placements – from emergency and short-term to long-term and specialist care – and we’ll work with you to match children based on your preferences, skills, and experience.
Fostering isn’t always easy, but it is always worthwhile. With the right support, foster carers can make a profound difference in a child’s life – offering not just a place to live, but a place to grow.
Could you be that person?
