Discovering Potential: Achieving Success

Fostering in York and its surrounding areas with Fostering2Inspire

The scenic walled city of York is located northeast of England, and is steeped in history and tradition. The 13th century Gothic cathedral of York Minster is famed for its medieval stained glass and two functioning bell towers, and being one of the largest of its kind in Northern Europe it gives the city of York a focal point for both visitors and residents.

For those looking to find out more, you can take a walk through this historic town with the city walls forming a beautiful walkway on both sides of the River Ouse. The Jorvik Viking Centre also gives residents and visitors an interactive approach to life in the Viking era, while the National Railway Museum showcases vintage trains and exhibitions to explore.

About seven miles from York, the village of Elvington is home to the Yorkshire Air Museum, with an extensive site where you can explore many aspects of aviation design and technology dating from the 1850s right up to the present day.

There are also a wide range of things to do for adults and children in this glorious area of Yorkshire. You can travel in style on a heritage train of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, walk with penguins at Sea Life Scarborough, or discover the World of James Herriott, the world famous vet whose books have enchanted generations of animal lovers.

There are also some terrific festivals throughout the year in the city of York, such as the York Balloon Fiesta, when you can watch a mass balloon launch from the Knavesmire at York Racecourse, as well as hear live music, ride on York's biggest fun fair and enjoy delicious food.

In this beautiful city and beyond, there is so much to enjoy, with such scenic and historic surroundings.
